CApp is the Bluetooth (TM)/BLE app for C-Compact and CBox Modulo from Convadis. This app enables direct communication between the user’s smartphone and the on-board computers in the vehicles.

CBox Modulo requires the Bluetooth sub module "C-CoreBt", which is plugged into the motherboard of the core unit to be able to communicate with the user's smartphone via Bluetooth. The C-Compact devices have the Bluetooth module already integrated.

CApp is available for Android and iPhone. The app consists of a background library CAppLib and a front end. CAppLib can be integrated into existing fleet management apps. Alternately, CApp can be used as a white-label app. Discover our cost-efficient system solution and let us inform you.

CApp and CAppLib

The CApp consists of two parts:

  • Front-end/input masks CApp
  • Background library CAppLib

The front-end is used as a user interface, while the exchange of all information on bookings, reservations, and more takes place via CAppLib. Our CApp does not necessarily have to be used as a standalone App – as an alternative to using the complete Convadis app, the library can be integrated into the host app of the reservation/fleet management system. Integration is easy because all communication with the device in the car and the server, as well as all security and encryption processes, are an integral part of the CAppLib.

Access data/reservations are sent by the reservation/fleet management system to our CCom server via HTTPS and automatically transmitted to CAppLib from there. From the host app, commands are passed to CAppLib to receive these reservations in encrypted form. CAppLib communicates with the device in the vehicle, requests GPS data, vehicle status, and user data, and transmits locking and unlocking commands, as well as reservation end commands to the device. So, you do not have to make any compromises in the range of functions and can use all the features of the app.

Features of CApp and CAppLib

The following features are available when using CApp and CAppLib:

Vehicle access

  • Log in/unlock and log out/lock (doors, immobilizer)
  • End reservation

Dashboard Features

  • Display of the start and end time of the reservation
  • Display of kilometers driven, current fuel/charge level
  • Display of the vehicle status (logged in/out, fuel/charging cards removed/plugged back, ignition on/off, key badge removed/plugged back again, charging cable plugged in, etc.)
  • Show fuel/charging card PIN code

Features CApp Expert Mode

  • Log file upload to CCom via CApp
  • Display of various vehicle conditions and usage values for analysis purposes
  • Request GPS location, GSM signal, and many other vehicle and usage information

An “Advertising String” can also be configured in the vehicle object in CCom. This string is sent by the OBS every 500 ms and displayed within CApp. It contains, among other things, the vehicle description for the user (e.B. “Vehicle 234, Opel Astra blue”).

CApp and CAppLib Operating System Requirements

The AppLib is available for Android (from OS version 8.0) and for iPhone (from version S). Android devices require at least BLE version 4.1. CApp/CAppLib works with C-Compact and CBox Modulo.

Personalization of CApp/CAppLib

Before the first use, the app must be personalized. For this purpose, two elements are stored in the smartphone:

  • An user ID provided by the booking system platform and assigned to the user (256 bit)
  • An “AppKey” provided by Convadis and associated with an organization

If CAppLib is integrated into the host app, these elements are forwarded from the host app to “CAppLib” when the app is started or a user changes.

When using CApp, personalization takes place via a QR code and/or deep link. CCom provides a function to generate the QR codes and deep links. These can be sent to the user e.g., by e-mail. CApp can store multiple users within the app and allows them to switch (e.g., a private and a business User ID). For whitelist/offline service card users, QR codes and deep links can be generated directly in the CCom web interface.

Customization of CApp/White Labeling

If required, CApp can also be used as a white label solution. The color layout and some texts (logo/title) can be adapted to the look and feel of the booking/fleet management system provider or fleet operator. The integration of other user languages is also quick and easy. CApp also provides a configurable button to open a link to the reservation/fleet management system. In the following screenshot, you can see how this works:

CApp Service

The Android version of CApp is also used for the installation, on-site diagnostics, and configuration of the on-board computers. For this purpose, an encrypted “Init/config” token valid for three days can be generated in CCom for a specific CApp user. With this token, the configuration of the respective vehicle can be started in “CApp”.

As you can see, we offer you a variety of modern and secure options for using our CApp and our CAppLib library – either as a stand-alone, semi-integrated or as a white label product. If you have any questions, suggestions or requests, please do not hesitate to contact us directly!
